Crawler Cranes for Sale & Rent
Crawler cranes are heavy-lift cranes that move on wide steel or rubber tracks instead of wheels. The tracks spread the machine weight over a large area, letting a crawler pick and travel with a suspended load and work on softer ground than a wheeled crane, without deploying outriggers. They are the workhorse of heavy civil, energy and offshore-fabrication projects.
Capacities run from around 40 tonnes to well over 3,000 tonnes on the largest lattice-boom and ring cranes. Leading builders include Liebherr (LR series), Manitowoc, Demag (CC series) and Sany. Because crawlers are transported in pieces and assembled on site, buyers consider transport dimensions, assembly time, boom and jib configurations, and ground-bearing pressure alongside capacity.

Frequently asked questions
Crawler vs all-terrain — which should I choose?
Choose a crawler for heavy, sustained lifting, pick-and-carry work, or soft ground, and where the crane will stay on one site for weeks. Choose an all-terrain when you need to drive to site on the road and set up quickly for shorter jobs.
Can a crawler crane travel with a load?
Yes — one of their defining advantages is pick-and-carry: crawlers can move on their tracks while holding a suspended load, within the limits of the load chart for travel. Wheeled cranes generally cannot.
How are crawler cranes transported?
They are dismantled into the car body, tracks, boom sections and counterweights, moved on multiple trailers, then assembled on site with an assist crane. Transport and rigging time is a real cost factor to plan for.
What should I check on a used crawler crane?
Track and roller wear, winch and rope condition, boom lattice for damage or repairs, hours, and complete boom, jib and counterweight sets — missing components are expensive to source. Review the service and inspection history.
